Description

Size: 13-15mm
Basic colour: Shiny black
Pronotoum: Sides rather straight and converging to rounded hind angles; foveae deep and well delimited externally.
Leg colour: Shiny black.
Confusion species: Pterostichus aethiops
, Confusion species: Pterostichus madidus

Biology

Status: Not recorded from Britain since 1973; widespread but very local in Ireland.
RDB Category: Endangered
Habitat: Wet humus in fens and bogs.
Other notes: Tarsal claw joints without ventral setae. Head with deep, curved frontal furrows anteriorly. Elytra parallel-sided, striae finely punctured, outer striae very faint; third interval with three or four deep fovate punctures. Wings present.
