Description
Size: 17-22mm
Basic colour: Shining black.
Pronotoum: Widest in front of middle, sides behind this almost straight and converging to sharp rectangular hind angles. Hind margin concave, foveae double, linear and unpunctured.
Leg colour: Black.

Biology
Status: Abundant. Widespread in Britain, except in north-east Scotland and in Ireland.
Habitat: Woods and damp, well vegetated moorlands.
Other notes: Elytral shoulders stongly toothed, with eight fully developed strong striae, intervals slightly convex. Third intervals slightly convex, third interval without dorsal punctures, seventh interval raised into a sharp keel anteriorly and apically. Wings absent.
