Description: 

13 British species, mostly found at the waterside on floating or emergent vegetation or in litter.  Mostly compact, brown-black beetles with elbowed (geniculate) antennae, long rostrums and smooth elytra.  The group includes Stenopelnus rufinasus Gyllenhal, a North American species which feeds on water fern, Azolla filiculoides.
